To facilitate smooth travel for voters, the government has declared general holidays on 11 and 12 February ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election. With the weekly holiday included, the announcement results in a four-day break.

During this period, metro rail services in the capital will continue to operate as usual to ensure uninterrupted transportation for commuters, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director Faruk Ahmed said.

Confirming the matter on Thursday morning (5 February), DMTCL Managing Director said metro train operations would remain normal throughout the holidays, with additional trains scheduled to run on election day.

“There will be no inconvenience,” he said.

DMTCL officials further said that metro services on the holiday days would follow the regular working-day schedule. However, for security reasons, station gates located immediately adjacent to polling centres will remain closed, while other gates will remain open for passengers.

To ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations during the election period, all leave for DMTCL staff and other relevant personnel has been cancelled, the officials added.
