A Bangladeshi expatriate from Sandwip in Chattogram died in a missile strike in Kuwait amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel in the Middle East.

Family members confirmed that Mohammad Jahed Hossain, a resident of Rahmatpur area under Sandwip municipality, died in the attack. News of his death reached his village home on Thursday evening, leaving relatives and neighbours in deep grief.

Jahed Hossain, the youngest son of Kamal Dafadar of Rahmatpur, had worked in Kuwait for several years at a private company. According to family sources, he sustained critical injuries during a missile strike linked to the ongoing regional conflict and died at the scene.

His brother-in-law, Md Babar Uddin, said the attack took place around 11:30am Kuwait time on Thursday.

“Soon after the strike, Jahed’s colleagues informed us about his death,” he said.

Jahed served as the main breadwinner of his family and regularly sent money home. His sudden death has plunged his family into mourning and cast a shadow of grief over the entire neighbourhood.

This marks the second death of a Bangladeshi expatriate from Sandwip in the recent Middle East unrest. On Sunday, Abul Mohsin, also known as Tarek, 52, from Azimpur union of Sandwip, died in an Iranian strike in Bahrain.

The deaths of two expatriates from the same upazila within a few days have created a sombre atmosphere across Sandwip.
