A Dhaka court on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir
Faiz passed the order and set 30 March for filing the execution report after
accepting the charge sheet filed by the ACC.
Earlier on 15 December 2024, the ACC filed the case
against Benazir Ahmed over allegedly amassing illegal wealth, concealing his
wealth statement, and money laundering, and submitted the charge sheet on 30
November 2025.
According to the case documents, Benazir Ahmed, in
his wealth statement, declared immovable assets worth Tk6.45 crore and movable
assets worth Tk5.74 crore.
However, the ACC found that he actually owns
immovable assets worth Tk7.52 crore and possesses movable assets worth Tk8.15
crore. A total of Tk6.59 crore was identified as coming from legitimate sources
of income.
According to the ACC's findings, Benazir Ahmed
acquired assets worth Tk11.04 crore beyond his known sources of income.
