Azam Khan made liberation war affairs minister

The government has reshuffled two ministries, appointing Ahmed Azam Khan as the liberation war affairs minister and assigning Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs State Minister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin additional charge of the land ministry.

A gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday said the responsibilities were reassigned in keeping with the prime minister’s decision.

The order took effect immediately.

Earlier in the day, Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, who was serving as the liberation war affairs minister, was elected speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, while Kayser Kamal, who was serving as the state minister for land, was elected deputy speaker.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to both.

He also administered the oath to Azam Khan at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around 12:45pm in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
