Although there were some difficulties getting tickets online, people traveling home from Dhaka by train for Eid are leaving with smiles this year without major suffering. Passengers have expressed relief as trains are departing on schedule.

A visit to Kamalapur Railway Station on Monday (16 March) showed a huge crowd of people returning home to their families. However, strict discipline was maintained at the station; everyone’s ticket is being checked before allowing entry to the platform. Railway authorities are not allowing anyone without a ticket to enter unless there is a special reason.

One such passenger, Riyasat, a private-sector employee, is returning to Brahmanbaria with a ticket for the Upaban Express. Expressing satisfaction, he said that buying tickets online made this year’s Eid journey quite comfortable. He added that there was no major chaos or unexpected crowd at the station, allowing him to start his journey without trouble.

Azizul Haque, a passenger traveling to Shayestaganj, said he bought his ticket online and did not face much difficulty. He said he is enjoying this year’s Eid journey.

Another passenger heading to Sylhet, Md. Billal, said he had some trouble purchasing a ticket online. Although he wanted an AC coach ticket, he could not get one and later managed to get a Shovon Chair ticket. However, overall he feels there is no major inconvenience this time.

Due to high demand and heavy traffic on the website, many passengers were unable to buy tickets online. However, standing tickets are being sold at the station so that people can still join the Eid journey.

Nazmul Haque, who bought a standing ticket for Brahmanbaria, said he tried several times online but could not get a ticket. Since he had to return home, he came to the station and bought a standing ticket, adding that the price was reasonable.

Those who cannot get standing tickets outside are also able to buy tickets inside the platform with a fine included. However, officials on duty are encouraging passengers to collect standing tickets in advance.

Regarding the overall situation, Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Md. Sazedul Islam said that so far 20 pairs of trains have departed from Dhaka. Among them, the Nilsagar Express left about half an hour late, but all other trains departed on time. He added that the measures taken should allow passengers to enjoy a smooth Eid journey without major suffering.
