The government has decided to appoint “tag officers” at all petrol pumps across the country to strengthen oversight of fuel distribution and operations.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Saturday (28 March).
According to the ministry, the decision was taken during an online meeting held on 27 March, chaired by the secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Mohammad Saiful Islam.
Under the decision, a government official will be assigned as a tag officer for each petrol pump to ensure greater transparency and coordination in the country’s fuel management system.
In Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will appoint the tag officers. Outside these two metropolitan areas, the respective deputy commissioners will assign tag officers in district and divisional towns, while upazila executive officers will make the appointments at the upazila level.
The appointed officers will carry out their duties in accordance with guidelines set by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division and BPC, and will submit regular reports on daily activities.
