State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit has reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to collective global action in eliminating blindness and improving ocular health.
He made this pledge during the three-day “World
Summit for Eye Care” held in Thailand’s capital Bangkok.
The high-level global summit, which took place from 31
March to 2 April, aimed at addressing visual impairment and advancing eye
health standards worldwide.
Muhit led a five-member Bangladesh delegation to
this prestigious event.
Delivering the keynote speech, the state minister
urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively for the sustainable development
of global eye health.
He highlighted Bangladesh's firm resolve and
proactive stance in this sector, emphasising that unified efforts are essential
to tackle future challenges.
The Bangladesh delegation showcased the country's
significant progress in eye care services and presented various initiatives
taken by the government to contribute to the development of this sector on a
global scale.
The summit was organised by the International Agency
for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), a premier global alliance comprising
governments and international donor agencies dedicated to eye health.
IAPB recognised Muhit as an “Eye Health Hero” in
2013 for his outstanding contributions to the field.
A renowned ophthalmologist and public health
specialist, Muhit has spent the last 25 years dedicated to research, education,
and training to eradicate blindness across various countries.
His participation in the summit has further
