Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Jashore on Monday morning to inaugurate the re-excavation of the Ulashi canal.

He landed at Jashore Airport at around 10:15am on a scheduled flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, according to his Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman.

Earlier in the morning, the prime minister had departed Dhaka for the south-western district as part of a day-long visit.

As per his itinerary, he will travel directly from the airport to Ulashi in Sharsha upazila, where he is set to inaugurate the re-excavation of the historic Ulashi–Jadunathpur canal, linked to the legacy of Ziaur Rahman. He will also attend a civic gathering at the site.

Later, at around 1:15pm, the prime minister is expected to lay the foundation stone of a 500-bed Jashore Medical College Hospital in the town. At 1:30pm, he will visit the nearly 200-year-old Jashore Institute Public Library.

Following prayers and a lunch break at the Jashore Circuit House, he will address a public rally at Jashore Eidgah Maidan at about 3:30pm.

He is scheduled to return to Dhaka in the evening, concluding his visit.
