A young man from Raozan was shot dead after coming to visit his sister’s house in Chattogram city, while an 11-year-old child suffered a gunshot injury to the eye during the same attack.
The deceased was identified as Raju, 24. The incident took place on Thursday night in the Shahid Minar Lane area of Roufabad under Bayezid Bostami Police Station.
According to Deputy Commissioner (North) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Amirul Islam, the victim had been staying at his sister’s residence in Roufabad for the past three days.
The injured child, identified as Reshmi Akter, 11, was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police said several attackers opened fire targeting Raju before fleeing the scene. During the shooting, the child was also hit by a bullet.
“We have recovered the bullet-riddled body,” the police official said.
He added that investigators suspect the killing may have been linked to a dispute in Raozan.
“The victim was not a resident of this area. We are trying to determine why he was suddenly targeted,” he said.
SI Nur-e-Alam Ashik of the hospital police outpost said, quoting family members, that the child was on her way to a nearby shop when the gunfire erupted.
“One of the bullets struck her in the eye. She has been admitted to the casualty ward,” he said.
