Final arguments commenced on Thursday in the case regarding the rape and murder of child Ramisa Akter in Pallabi, Mirpur, marking a significant stage in the trial proceedings.

The hearing began at around 11:45am before Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Children's Violence Suppression Tribunal with both accused present in court.

Prosecutor Advocate Azizur Rahman Dulu opened the state's final submissions, while defence lawyer Advocate Musa Kalimullah is expected to present arguments on behalf of the accused once the prosecution concludes.

Following the completion of the arguments, the tribunal is expected to set a date for delivering its verdict.

Earlier, the court had fixed Thursday for final arguments after concluding the examination of the accused and the recording of defence evidence on Wednesday.

Accused Sohel Rana and his wife, Swapna Khatun, were brought to court earlier in the day. Proceedings began shortly after the judge took the bench, following a brief delay reportedly linked to Swapna's illness.

The case was formally sent to trial after the tribunal accepted the chargesheet submitted by the investigating officer and scheduled subsequent hearings, including charge-framing proceedings, in late May and early June.
