Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has said the government has established a four-tier anti-rabies vaccine supply mechanism to ensure uninterrupted availability of dog-bite vaccines at all upazila health complexes across the country.

He shared the information in parliament on Wednesday while replying to a starred question from Chattogram-16 MP Mohammad Zahirul Islam.

The MP sought to know whether anti-rabies vaccines for dog-bite treatment would be supplied to all hospitals, including Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex.

In response, the minister explained the contingency plan designed to prevent any artificial shortages at the grassroots level.

“If a health complex runs out of the anti-rabies vaccine, the required stock can be sourced immediately from a neighbouring upazila health complex or the respective district civil surgeon’s office.”

He also said that in the rare event of a supply gap at both local and district levels, the deputy commissioner (DC) concerned has been authorised to arrange emergency vaccine supplies until fresh stocks arrive from the central level.

Sakhawat Husain assured that initiatives have already been taken to supply the vaccine to all hospitals nationwide, and the distribution process is underway.

Presenting the latest distribution data to the House, he said that a total of 1,39,675 vials of anti-rabies vaccine, equivalent to 5,58,700 doses, have been supplied across the country as of 10 June.

The minister reiterated the government’s firm commitment to maintaining a steady and uninterrupted supply of anti-rabies vaccines to safeguard public health against the stray dog menace.
