The closing ceremony and prize-giving event of a national-level quiz competition and national cyber drill was organised on the occasion of Safe Internet Day 2026 by the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), with the support of the ICT Division on Saturday.
A series of programmes were undertaken to raise
cybersecurity awareness, promote safe internet usage, and enhance cybersecurity
skills among students, youth, and organisations responsible for managing
Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), said a press release.
As part of the Safe Internet Day 2026 campaign, a
nationwide activation programme was conducted through ICT Officers at “School
of Future” institutions across all 300 parliamentary constituencies of the
country.
The campaign included the distribution of awareness
leaflets, cybersecurity awareness sessions, seminars, and discussions focusing
on safe internet practices, online security, and preparedness against cyber
threats. A total of more than 6,000 students from across the country registered
for the competition
Subsequently, on 16 May 2026, regional cybersecurity
quiz competitions were held at 17 regional venues across the country in two
categories: junior and senior.
From each venue, five winners were selected from the
junior category and five from the senior category, resulting in a total of ten
winners per venue. These winners advanced to the national-level final
competition.
The national final quiz competition and a seminar on
Safe Internet Day 2026 were held on Saturday at the BCC Auditorium in the
capital’s Agargaon area.
The seminar was attended by Md Mamunur Rashid
Bhuiyan, acting secretary, ICT Division, as the chief guest.
The session was chaired by Dr Md Taibur Rahman,
director general, National Cyber Security Agency.
The speakers emphasised the importance of
responsible and safe internet usage and highlighted the need to enhance
cybersecurity knowledge and skills among the younger generation.
Another major event organised as part of Safe
Internet Day 2026 was the National Cyber Drill 2026. The drill was designed to
strengthen the country's overall cybersecurity preparedness, enhance the
protection of Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), assess organisational
readiness against cyberattacks, and improve coordinated cyber defense and incident
response capabilities among participating organisations.
The National Cyber Drill 2026 was conducted online
on 16 May, from 10AM to 4pm, with the participation of 68 teams representing
banks, financial institutions, and Critical Information Infrastructure (CII)
organisations across the country.
During the drill, participating teams were required
to demonstrate their expertise in responding to realistic cybersecurity
challenges involving risk auditing, networking, cryptography, reverse engineering,
binary exploitation, web security, Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), Advanced
Persistent Threats (APT), incident response, digital forensics, threat
analysis, and cyber defence operations.
The competition was highly competitive among the
participating teams. At the conclusion of the drill, Mutual Trust Bank PLC
secured the 1st position with a score of 5,750, followed by Dutch-Bangla Bank
PLC in 2nd position with 5,600 points, and Community Bank Bangladesh PLC in 3rd
position with 5,550 points.
A notable feature of this year's National Cyber
Drill was the implementation of comprehensive video surveillance throughout the
entire exercise, ensuring transparency, fairness, and discipline during the
competition.
The closing ceremony was attended by Posts,
Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam as the
chief guest.
Rehan Asif Asad, adviser to the prime minister on
posts, telecommunications and information technology, attended the event and
delivered remarks as the special guest.
Among the distinguished guests were Md Mamunur
Rashid Bhuiyan, acting secretary, ICT Division, and Dr Md Taibur Rahman,
director general, National Cyber Security Agency.
The speakers highlighted the importance of promoting
safe, responsible, and secure internet usage, developing skilled cybersecurity
professionals, and strengthening the protection of the country's CII.
They expressed optimism that the activities organised
under Safe Internet Day 2026 would contribute significantly to fostering a
strong cybersecurity culture and building a safer and more resilient Digital
Bangladesh.
