Former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur (BRUR) Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah on Monday submitted his bail bond in a case over the alleged embezzlement of funds allocated for the university's development projects.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahjahan Kabir allowed
the submission of the Tk1 lakh bond, subject to the surrender of the accused's
passport.
Confirming the development, defence lawyer Mohsin
Reza said Kalimullah had secured bail from the High Court on 14 June.
"We have submitted the bail bond, and there is
no legal bar to his release as there is no other case pending against
him," he added.
Meanwhile, Monday had also been fixed for the
submission of the probe report, and Kalimullah was produced before the court
from jail.
However, the court deferred the submission of the
investigation report until 23 September.
The case was filed on 18 June 2025 against
Kalimullah and four others over the alleged embezzlement of funds allocated for
development works at the university.
Members from the Detective Branch (DB) arrested him
from his Mohammadpur residence on 7 August 2025.
