NCP leaders filed a police complaint against 11 people, including a local Chhatra Dal leader, on Wednesday over the attack on a party convoy in Habiganj town a day earlier. Around a hundred other unidentified individuals have also been accused.

NCP leaders went to the Kamaichhara Police Outpost, and filed the complaint online with the Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station around 8:30pm.

Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Jahidul Haque said no case was filed over the attack, adding the situation was normal at night.

NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam said the party would recognise that at least “some form of rule of law” existed in the country under the BNP government, if the accused were detained by night.

But, if the law enforcers fail to detain the alleged culprits by the given deadline, NCP would acknowledge that the country is being run by a “mafia government,” Nahid claimed.

Earlier, NCP leaders, including elected MPs, staged a sit-in in the Kamaichhara area for around five hours, after a heavy police deployment prevented their vehicle convoy from proceeding towards the Habiganj town.

Police officers claimed they resisted the NCP convoy to protect the young political leaders from potential violent attacks in the town, and to preserve the Section 144, which the politicians allegedly tried to violate.

Earlier, in the day, the administrative authorities imposed Section 144 in Habiganj municipal areas after BNP and NCP called rival demonstrations.

NCP called countrywide demonstrations in protest against attacks, allegedly by local activists aligned with BNP, on two of their top leaders' vehicles next to the Town Hall in Habiganj on Tuesday.
