The car of
Ainul Haque, ruling party lawmaker from Sirajganj-3 constituency, was
vandalised during a political scuffle at Dhangora area of Raiganj upazila in
the district on Saturday afternoon.
Later, in a
video message, he blamed Jamaat-Shibir and NCP for the attack. He demanded
speedy arrest of the accused, claiming he does not get security even after
being a ruling party lawmaker.
However,
Jamaat’s local unit has denied the allegation, saying the attack took place due
to BNP’s internal feud.
Afterwards,
BNP activists hosted rallies and processions in Chandaikona and Dhangora areas
of the upazila, protesting the attack.
Raiganj
Circle Additional Police Superintendent Saiful Islam said additional police ensured
peace in the area, but did not say who was behind the attack.
Locals said
that recently a government letter surfaced on social media concerning plans for
constructing a new Technical Training Centre (TTC) at Chandaikona area in
Raiganj upazila.
In response
to the planned government move, a section of people staged demonstrations
demanding the TTC be built in Dhangora area. Counter protests were also staged
by people demanding the original plan be retained.
On Saturday
afternoon, Ainul Haque sat down with the group from Dhangora to settle the
dispute. As no agreement was reached and tensions elevated, the lawmaker
decided to leave the area. However, agitators threw brick at his car from
behind, leaving it damaged.
