‘Lover’ Hasibur sent to jail over model Ridhika’s suicide case

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent Hasibur Rahman, reportedly the lover of model Lina Akter alias Ridhika Ridhi, to jail in a case filed over the alleged abetment of the actress’s suicide.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order and set 18 August for the hearing on the bail petition, Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain said.

Earlier on Saturday, the hanging body of actress Ridhika Ridhi was recovered from a house under Vatara Police Station.

Her mother, Moni Begum, filed a case of abetment of suicide following the incident. Police arrested Hasibur on the same day.

According to the case documents, Hasibur and Ridhika were in a romantic relationship. Hasibur allegedly put her under mental pressure and abetted her to commit suicide, which prompted Ridhika to take her own life.

The detention petition said the primary investigation had revealed Hasibur’s involvement in the incident. His detention is needed for a fair investigation.
