State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit on Saturday expressed hope that the country’s power shortage would ease significantly before the next summer.
“The
government is providing various incentives and facilities to entrepreneurs for
solar power generation, enabling the country to produce at least 3,000MW of solar
power before next summer,” he said.
The
state minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion organised by
the district administration at the Jashore PTI auditorium in the afternoon.
The meeting was arranged to discuss improving quality and moral education and ensuring cleanliness, with headteachers, education officials and chairpersons of school governing bodies.
Speaking
about the rise in fuel prices, Amit said Saudi Arabia was “floating on oil”,
yet fuel prices had increased there as well. Oil and gas prices had also risen
in the United States, he said, adding that prices were increasing in the global
market.
“In
this situation, how long can an import-dependent country like ours keep prices
unchanged? Even then, the government is adjusting prices keeping the people’s
interests in mind,” he said.
Addressing
the teachers, the state minister stressed the need to build a foundation of
moral education among students from the primary level.
He
also stressed ensuring cleanliness and quality sanitation at educational
institutions and holding regular discussions with parents to prevent child marriage.
“No
student at a government school will have to discontinue their studies due to a
lack of money. The government will take responsibility for them,” he said.
Jashore
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashiq Hasan chaired the meeting. Jashore District
Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon attended as a special guest.
