Prince urges vigilance against fertiliser manipulation, artificial shortages

Mymensingh Zila Parishad Administrator and BNP’s Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince said on Saturday that those conspiring to create an artificial fertiliser crisis would face strict punishment.

He said an unscrupulous group was conspiring to create an artificial shortage of fertiliser and manipulate its prices.

He urged the administration to ensure that genuine farmers can purchase the required amount of fertiliser at government-fixed prices.

Prince made the remarks while attending separate meetings of BNP and its affiliated organisations in Haluaghat and Dhobaura upazilas and municipalities in Mymensingh.

The meetings were held at Hotel Imex in Haluaghat and the Dhobaura upazila BNP office.

Prince said fertiliser must be sold at government-fixed prices and distributed properly across the areas.

“Everyone must remain vigilant so that no one gets the opportunity to create an artificial shortage, sell fertiliser at inflated prices, hoard it or deprive genuine farmers,” he said.

He urged party leaders and activists to cooperate with the fertiliser distribution process, keeping farmers’ interests at the forefront.

“Protecting the interests of agriculture and farmers is not only the government’s responsibility. Political parties and every conscious member of society also have a role to play,” Prince said.

He said farmers’ access to fertiliser would help increase crop production, ensure food security and strengthen the national economy.

“No irregularity or conspiracy involving fertiliser will be tolerated,” he said.

The meetings also decided to implement programmes marking the party’s founding anniversary successfully and in a disciplined manner.

The separate meetings were chaired by Haluaghat upazila BNP convener Aslam Mia Babul, municipality BNP convener Hanif Mohammad Shaker Ullah and Dhobaura upazila BNP convener Professor Azharul Islam Kajal.

Mymensingh North District BNP convener Professor Enayet Ullah Kalam, former Dhobaura chairman Alhaj Mofiz Uddin, Dhobaura upazila BNP member secretary Anisur Rahman Manik and Haluaghat upazila BNP member secretary Abu Hasnat Badrul Kabir, among others, addressed the meetings.
