The ruling BNP has fulfilled its election promise to implement
a new pay scale for government officials and employees within six months of
assuming office, said PM’s Adviser and Spokesperson Mahdi Amin on Monday.
By dint of the Prime Minister’s highest level of
sincerity and initiative, it has been decided to retain the existing 20 grades
for government officials and employees while increasing basic salaries by up to
142%, Mahdi Amin said in a Facebook post.
Under the new structure, basic salaries for grades 1 to
11 have been increased by 100%, while those for grades 12 to 20 have been
increased by 115 to 142%. The new pay structure will be implemented in three
phases starting 1 July. A similar phased increase in net pensions will also be
implemented for pensioners.
For the first time, a monthly “Allowance for Children with Disabilities” of
Tk3,000 will be introduced for government employees who have children with
special needs, Mahdi Amin further said in his Facebook post.
“God willing, through this initiative, the government hopes to further
accelerate improvements in the quality of life, prosperity and dignity of
government officials and employees as they contribute to nation-building,” the
post read.
