Condemning the recent attack on actress Azmeri Haque Badhon on foreign soil, Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman has said that the Awami League is not a political party but a “mafia gang.”
He made the remarks in response to a question from journalists during his regular weekly briefing at the conference room of the Press Information Department at the Secretariat on Tuesday (8 September).
The adviser said what the Awami League actually is and who they are has been repeatedly revealed through their activities.
He questioned whether a party that has no minimum sense of responsibility and whose activities show not the slightest concern for public interest should be allowed to engage in politics on the soil of Bangladesh.
He said, “I do not consider the Awami League a political party. It is a mafia gang.”
Regarding the attack on actress Badhon, he said that being targeted by the lust of a mafia gang proves that Badhon was on the right path.
Recalling Badhon’s courageous role during the July uprising, he described it as a kind of achievement and honour for her.
Dr Zahed Ur Rahman further confirmed that the process of taking legal action against this mafia network has already begun and that the government will not let the matter go in any way.
Dismissing threats of future attacks, he said there was no reason to fear the goons affiliated with Sheikh Hasina when a ruler like her had been forced to flee the country.
