A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed eight more accused on remand for different terms in a case filed over the killing of Special Branch (SB) Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Altaf Hossain, 58, at Aminbazar in Savar.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Tajul Islam Sohag passed the order after a hearing, said SI Arif Hossain of the Prosecution Department.
The court granted five days’ remand to Md Alauddin, 29, Md Apon, 26, Md Jihad, 23, Imran Hossain, 25, Nur Mohammad Rudra, 24, and Md Golam Rabbi, 22, while it granted three days’ remand to Billal, 34, and Delwar Hossain, 33.
Earlier, SI Md Zakir Al Ahsan, investigating officer of the case and in-charge of Aminbazar police camp under Savar Model Police Station, produced the accused before the court and sought 10 days’ remand for each of them through two separate petitions.
On Monday, prime accused Jahurul, 32, was placed on five days’ remand in the case.
According to the case statement, an argument broke out around 7:30pm on 5 September over a man parking his autorickshaw in front of Abul Kalam Azad’s auto garage in Bardebi West Para, Savar.
Altaf Hossain, who went there to stop the argument, came under attack by the accused. The accused, along with others, attacked him with rods, pipes, hammers and sticks. He later took shelter at his son Ariful Islam’s business establishment to save his life.
They also attacked Ariful and vandalised the establishment while he was trying to save his father.
The injured were later taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Altaf Hossain dead.
Altaf’s wife, Mst Shuli Parvin, filed the murder case with Savar Police Station.
