A Dhaka court on Thursday set 26 October for the hearing on charge framing in an arms case filed against former law minister Anisul Huq.
Acting
Judge Mosaddek Minhaj of the Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge
Court-4 set the date, said court sources.
According
to the case details, Anisul legally owned a licensed pistol under the
jurisdiction of Banani Police Station.
On
25 August 2024, the Home Ministry suspended all firearm licences issued for
personal security between 6 January 2009 and 5 August 2024 and ordered licence
holders to surrender their firearms by 3 September 2024.
However,
Anisul failed to surrender his licensed firearm to the police station or inform
the authorities within the stipulated time. Police later found no one at his
registered address and could not obtain any information about the whereabouts
of the weapon.
On
13 August 2024, police arrested the former law minister in the capital’s
Sadarghat area after receiving information that he was allegedly trying to flee
by waterway.
