President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday called for state recognition and awards for people who have made significant contributions to education.
He made the call when a delegation from BRAC
University, led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, paid a
courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.
During the meeting, the vice-chancellor
briefed the President on the university’s academic activities. He said BRAC
University was focusing on employment-oriented subjects in line with current
demands, including artificial intelligence, life sciences, agrotechnology and
nursing.
The President stressed the need to improve
the quality of education to keep pace with the rapidly changing world.
He also urged public and private universities
to increase research activities and said those who were doing well in various
fields abroad should be given national recognition at home.
He stressed the need to move away from
outdated approaches and formulate a modern, relevant and employment-oriented education
policy at the earliest.
During the meeting, the vice-chancellor
formally invited the President, as Chancellor, to attend the university’s
upcoming convocation. The President accepted the invitation and assured the
delegation that he would attend the event.

and Press Secretary, and BRAC University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer and
