Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Executive
Director Iftekharuzzaman on Thursday welcomed BNP women’s reserved seat lawmaker
Ferdousy Ahmed Misty's resignation from the parliament over her alleged involvement
in the vandalism and looting at Radda healthcare centre in Mirpur.
However, he cautioned that the incident should not be
maintained as an “isolated incident” and instead should initiate a broad-based
self-purification drive among all the political parties with the adoption of a
comprehensive ethical code for all lawmakers.
"The decision to resign…is timely. However, this should
not be seen merely as an ad-hoc or isolated reaction but as the beginning of a
broad, self-purifying process for all political parties," he said in a
statement.
The TIB chief added that lessons from recent events should
inspire all public representatives to behave ethically.
