A Dhaka court on Tuesday barred two officials recommended for the administration and foreign affairs cadres in the 38th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination from leaving the country over allegations that they used forged certificates to secure government jobs and draw salaries and allowances.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following applications filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said ACC Public Relations Officer Akterul Islam.

The two accused are Sanjoy Das of Hazaribagh in Dhaka, who was recommended for the administration cadre, and Abu Saleh Md Musa of Khaliajuri in Netrokona, who was recommended for the foreign affairs cadre.

ACC Assistant Director and investigation officer Sajjad Hossain earlier filed the applications seeking to prevent them from travelling abroad.

According to the applications, the two allegedly obtained forged certificates through fraud with the intention of securing government jobs and financial benefits. They then allegedly used the documents as genuine to establish their eligibility, misleading the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) into recommending them for the respective cadres.

The applications further alleged that the accused drew salaries and allowances after joining their jobs, resulting in the misappropriation of government funds.

The ACC said it had received reliable information that the two were attempting to leave the country. It sought the travel ban to ensure a fair investigation and prevent them from going abroad before the investigations are completed.

The cases against the two are currently under investigation.
