The Doctors
Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a pro-BNP panel of physicians, suspended its Assistant
Law-affairs Secretary Dr Jahid Hasan over his alleged involvement in the attack
on Dr Quazi Ahmed Zaki, director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease
Control and Research (IEDCR).
DAB has also served a show cause notice to Dr Jahid Hasan, asking him to explain his alleged actions within 48 hours, said DAB Secretary General Dr Md Jahirul Islam Shakil on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has ordered a probe into the incident, an official at the ministry told reporters.
Earlier, on
Wednesday morning, a group of eight-nine people, allegedly members of DAB,
abruptly entered the office of Dr Quazi Ahmed Zaki at IEDCR, during a meeting
at the health facility.
The mob pulled Dr Quazi away from his chair, and beat him up on the spot, CCTV footage showed.
