The seven-day National Youth Fair scheduled for 1-7 November at the old trade fair ground in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar has been postponed, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque said on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat marking National Youth Day on 1 November, he said the fair was suspended following a decision by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works to halt all fairs at the designated venue ahead of National Revolution and Solidarity Day on 7 November.
“Accordingly, the national-level fair has been postponed for the time being,” he said, adding that fairs would still be held in every district and upazila across the country.
He said other scheduled programmes, including the inauguration of a biogas plant and formal events at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, would proceed as planned.
Asked whether the government had given a specific reason for postponing the fair, Aminul Haque said the Ministry of Housing and Public Works had issued an official letter on Thursday morning suspending all fairs at the venue.
However, the letter did not specify any particular reason for the decision, he added.
