Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said a special examination will be held within a month for students who failed in two subjects in this year's HSC and equivalent examinations, aiming to prevent them from losing an academic year.

"Of the 594,113 students who failed this year's SSC and equivalent examinations, 422,905 failed in two subjects. We will arrange a special examination for them very soon so that they do not lose a valuable year of their lives. This is our assurance to them," he said.

The minister made the announcement at the results publication ceremony for the SSC and equivalent examinations at the Secretariat on Saturday.

He said the authorities were considering an appropriate date for the special examination, taking into account both students' preparation time and the upcoming admission process.

"We could arrange the examination within two or three days, but students would not have enough time to prepare if they had to sit for it within seven days. On the other hand, delaying it too long would affect the admission process," he said.

He added that the government would balance these considerations but would not allow the examination to be delayed beyond one month.

Milon said this year's results had exposed gaps in students' learning achievements, which the government would seek to address through necessary initiatives. He acknowledged that the overall results had fallen short of expectations and said the ministry and education boards would continue working to overcome the shortcomings.

Urging guardians and teachers to take greater responsibility for addressing students' weaknesses, he encouraged those who had failed not to lose hope, saying examination failure was not the end of life.

"Students' education does not end here. They must prepare themselves for the future. In particular, those who failed in two subjects can certainly pass if they prepare properly," he said.

Referring to the examinations held in July, the minister said fresh examinations had been arranged nationwide following allegations of irregularities and discrimination. The re-examinations were held on 24 July.

He congratulated students who had achieved good results and expressed hope that those who had failed would perform better in the next examination.
