No ordinary passport or travel pass will be issued to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been sentenced to death, to facilitate her return from India, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir has said.
He said she would have to be brought back from New Delhi
under the existing extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India.
The state minister made the remarks while responding to a
question from journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on
Thursday (5 November), as he saw off a delegation led by Liu Haixing, Minister
of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central
Committee.
On the occasion, Humaiun Kobir also said that the proposed trilateral corridor involving China, Bangladesh and Myanmar could turn the entire region into an important commercial hub if implemented.
He said Dhaka was highly interested in joining the regional
corridor, but stressed that a lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis would be
necessary before moving forward with the initiative.
The state minister expressed hope that Liu Haixing's visit
would further deepen and strengthen bilateral and strategic relations between
China and Bangladesh in the coming days.
Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the
CPC Central Committee, left Dhaka on Thursday after a three-day visit to Bangladesh.
