Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Valuka unit formed a human chain on Monday to protest food adulteration and raise public awareness about its harmful effects.

The demonstration took place on Monday afternoon at the Valuka Bus Stand area, led by Valuka Bashundhara Shuvosangho unit President Lecturer Md Zahedul Islam Subin and conducted by General Secretary Afzal Fahim Khan Ejaz.

Speakers at the event included former Valuka Municipality Councilor Md Kamal Hossain, Apollo Institute of Computer Principal and Shuvosangho Adviser ARM Shamsur Rahman Liton, Journalist and Shuvosangho Adviser Mokhlesur Rahman Monir from Kaler Kantho, and Journalist Asaduzzaman Sumon from Bangladesh Pratidin and ATN News.

Also present were members and well-wishers of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, including Md. Rafiqul Islam, Finance Secretary Sanowar Shanto, Information and Technology Secretary Sakhawat Hossain Sumon, Organisational Secretary Sabil Pathan, Publicity Secretary Zahidul Islam Jinu, and members Nakib, Kishore, Ibne Masud, Bijon, and Pranto.

During his speech, former councilor Kamal Hossain said, “Due to ignorance, many of our farmers use fertilisers and pesticides carelessly, contaminating vegetables, fish, and crops.”

“Some producers also mix harmful substances out of greed, putting consumers at risk of serious illness and premature death. We urge everyone to produce and consume safe, adulteration-free food,” he said.

Echoing the concern, ARM Shamsur Rahman said, “Nearly everything we consume is contaminated, leading to chronic diseases and weakening our vitality.”

He said, “Both consumers and producers must act responsibly to ensure safe food. Producers should remember that adulterated food they create may eventually harm their own families.”

Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Valuka branch organised the campaign as part of its ongoing efforts to promote public health and social awareness across communities.
