A discussion titled “Youth Leadership in Social Change: Prospects, Struggles, and the Journey Ahead” was held at Rajshahi University, highlighting the crucial role of young leaders in driving positive transformation in society.

The event was organised by Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s  RU unit on Wednesday (12 Nov).

The discussion took place in Room 206 of the university’s Momtaz Uddin Academic Building, where members of the organisation participated actively.

The session was chaired by Mission Chakma, vice president of the unit, and conducted by Al Farabi Duronto, sports secretary.

The keynote address was delivered by Alfaz Uddin Tonic, general secretary of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho RU unit.

In his speech, Alfaz Uddin Tonic said, “The driving force behind Bangladesh’s social change has always been its young generation. They not only dream of change but also possess the courage to transform reality.”

He added that today’s youth are standing up against injustice, inequality, and oppression, setting new examples of innovation and idealism in society.

“However, this journey is never easy. Limited opportunities, institutional barriers, and social constraints often pose significant challenges. Yet, time and again, young leaders have shown that with determination, integrity, and dedication, real change is possible,” he added.

Discussing the broader spectrum of youth leadership, he noted that leadership is not confined to politics alone. “Social workers, volunteers, and community leaders are also pioneers of change. They work quietly to promote education, healthcare, human rights, and social justice. Their mission is not politics, but humanity — and that service lays the foundation for true social transformation.”

Vice President Mission Chakma emphasised that youth leadership should go beyond speeches and slogans.

“True leaders identify social problems, find solutions, and implement them in practice. Shuvosangho works with this vision — where every young person becomes a partner in social change,” he said.

Unit President Mahbub Hasan remarked that social change is a gradual process that requires persistence and vision.

“Leadership is not just about giving instructions; it’s about inspiring others, fostering cooperation, and upholding human values. Bashundhara Shuvosangho is part of a movement to nurture such humane leadership,” he said.

He further noted that the thoughts, initiatives, and positive attitudes of today’s youth form the foundation for building a better future.

“We must trust our youth and support their potential to bring about meaningful change,” he added.

Other speakers at the event included Joint General Secretary Sujon Tudu, Office Secretary Moniruzzaman, Treasurer Jasim Uddin, Assistant Organising Secretary Imon Posnem, Publicity Secretary Pranto Kumar Dash, Hospitality Secretary Arif Mia, and Executive Members Mahbuba Islam Merina, Rasel Sheikh, and Himel Ahmed Himu, among others.

The programme concluded with an open discussion on the social role of youth leadership, where participants shared their views and experiences, emphasising the need for collective efforts to bring about positive social change.

At the end of the session, participants reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the outreach of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and engaging more young people in building a humane and progressive society.
