Bashundhara Shuvosangho has inaugurated a sewing training centre in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh, aiming to empower disadvantaged women and students through skills development.

The three-month training programme, launched on Friday, will provide tailoring training to 20 widows, underprivileged women and students. Md Hatem Ali Humayun has been appointed as the trainer.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the premises of Nandail Pilot Girls' High School with the participation of trainees and members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.

Nandail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fatema Jannat attended the event as the chief guest.

Headmaster of Nandail Pilot Girls' High School and President of the Upazila Anti-Corruption Committee Md Abdul Khaleque presided over the programme.

Among the special guests were President of the school managing committee and BNP leader Hasnat Mahmud Talha, Nandail Press Club President Enamul Haque Babul, social worker Ataur Rahman Bachchu, teacher AK Ramiz Uddin Ahmed and journalist Farid Mia.

One of the trainees, a financially distressed woman, said she had been struggling to support her family, including her ailing husband and children.

She expressed hope that after completing the training and receiving a sewing machine, she would be able to earn a living and become financially self-reliant.

Speaking at the event, Nandail Press Club President Enamul Haque Babul described the initiative as commendable, saying it would play an important role in improving the livelihoods of poor women and students in the remote area.

BNP leader Hasnat Mahmud Talha said Bashundhara Shuvosangho had been working to create entrepreneurs, support underprivileged women and assist talented students from low-income families with their education.

"The tailoring training and sewing machine distribution programme will significantly contribute to these efforts," he said.

UNO Fatema Jannat said economic empowerment is essential for women, as financial dependence often left them vulnerable to hardship and social neglect.

She said the training programme would help disadvantaged women become entrepreneurs and praised Bashundhara Shuvosangho for its continued contribution to social welfare.

She also assured participants that her office would extend support wherever possible.

In his concluding remarks, Md Abdul Khaleque said Bashundhara Shuvosangho had previously organised similar training programmes in Nandail and provided sewing machines to disadvantaged women.

"Many of those beneficiaries are now self-reliant and have improved their family's financial condition through tailoring. I hope the organisation will continue such initiatives in the future," he said.
