Bashundhara Shuvosangho has provided food and relief supplies to the family of Ananta Roy, a student who lost a leg in a road accident in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.
The organisation recently delivered the
relief supplies to Ananta's home in Gobindaganj upazila, where he is currently
recovering after receiving treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology
and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Dhaka.
Ananta was seriously injured in a road
accident in the Chapriganj area of Gobindaganj and had to have one of his legs
amputated.
Having completed his honours degree, Ananta
had been looking for a job to support his family. The accident has now put that
plan into uncertainty.
“I have completed my honours degree and was
trying to find a job to support my family. But, unfortunately, I lost one of my
legs in the accident. I do not know what to do now and am suffering from
depression. I want a modern prosthetic leg and an employment opportunity,”
Ananta said.
His father, Ujjal Das, works as a boatman and
also sells fish at a local market to support the family. He said he had many
dreams for his son but was now worried about his son's future and the family's
financial situation.
“I had many dreams for my son. Now I feel
helpless and do not know what to do. I urge everyone to stand by my son and our
impoverished family,” Ujjal said.
Members of Gobindaganj upazila Shuvosangho --
Humayun Ahmed Biplob, Atik Hasan Jibon, Abdul Matin Pradhan, Md Sagar Pradhan
and Abu Yusuf Ali -- delivered the relief supplies to Ananta's home on Monday.
Mehedi Hasan, president of a ward unit of the
Jubo Dal, and artisan Pradip Sutradhar were also present.
The relief package included rice, lentils,
flour, cooking oil, ginger, garlic and onions.
Ananta's family thanked Bashundhara Shuvosangho
for the assistance.
The initiative provided some relief to the
family as it struggles to cope with the aftermath of the accident. However,
Ananta needs long-term support, particularly a modern prosthetic leg and
suitable employment.
His family has urged financially capable and
compassionate people to come forward to help him rebuild his life.
