Speakers at a career counselling session on Saturday urged youth to acquire practical knowledge and hone their soft skills alongside formal academic pursuits to succeed in today’s competitive job market.
The event, titled "Career Guidance and Open
Discussion", was organised by the Dhaka University unit of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho in front of the university’s Senate Bhaban on Saturday afternoon.
It aimed to guide students on career planning, skill development, and ethical
values.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Central Committee President and
Assistant Professor of English at IUBAT Md Sadequl Islam attended the session
as the chief guest.
Presided over by the unit's President Abdul Momin, the
session was attended by Vice-Presidents Azizul Hakim and Kenton Chakma, General
Secretary Riyadus Salehin, Joint General Secretary Sobhan Ali Hridoy, and Joint
Organising Secretaries Rawshon Ali and Shakil Mia, alongside hall
representatives and general members.
Sadequl Islam underscored the importance of skill
acquisition in line with contemporary industry demands to tackle youth
unemployment.
"Securing an academic degree alone is not enough to
thrive in the job market. Youths must cultivate realistic and practical
competencies to make themselves employment-ready," he said.
He urged students to uphold family bonds, treat parents with
care and respect, and maintain strong moral principles.
He also identified effective communication, teamwork,
leadership qualities, basic digital literacy, and adaptability as vital
components of career progression, sharing insights from his personal life.
In his presidential address, Abdul Momin said the initiative aimed to ensure that Dhaka University students complement their academic strengths with practical expertise.
General Secretary Riyadus Salehin reiterated the unit's
commitment to supporting students, adding that more constructive and
educational programmes would be arranged in the future to equip learners with
pragmatic skills.
The lively open discussion concluded with participants
gaining practical insights into career mapping, personal development, and
professional preparedness.
