To curb the spread of dengue and other vector-borne diseases, the Monpura upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho carried out a comprehensive cleanliness and awareness drive in Bhola on Tuesday.
During the campaign, volunteers cleaned up accumulated waste across several key locations in the upazila and eliminated potential breeding sites of Aedes mosquitoes, the vector responsible for transmitting dengue.
They engaged with local residents, emphasising the
critical need to keep surroundings clean and prevent stagnant water
accumulation in yards, rooftops, and educational institutions.
Monpura Upazila Additional Executive Officer
Tarik Chandra Shil attended the event as a guest, praising the youth-led
initiative. He stressed that administrative measures alone cannot eradicate
dengue without widespread civic awareness.
"Citizens must take personal ownership of their living spaces. Discarding waste properly and ensuring no water stagnates anywhere are the most effective defenses against mosquito breeding," he remarked.
Presided over by Bashundhara Shuvosangho
Monpura unit President Abdur Rahman Soyeb, the drive was attended by Shuvosangho’s
Bhola district unit Joint General Secretary Fazle Rabbi Rimon, upazila Finance
Secretary Imam Hossain Rifat, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Shimla Akter
Mitu, Environment and Climate Secretary Tisha Tabassum, Social Welfare
Secretary Sadia Akter, Education and Study Circle Affairs Secretary Khadija
Begum, and executive members Anjum Ara Mim, Shanto Talukdar, and Md Tamim,
alongside other members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Soyeb noted that collective social responsibility is indispensable for public health. "Relying entirely on authorities is not enough; individual hygiene and community alertness can significantly curb disease outbreaks," he said, confirming that Shuvosangho will continue organising regular cleanup and public health campaigns across the region.
