To encourage children from ethnic communities to pursue formal education, curb school dropouts, and sensitise guardians against child marriage, the Hakimpur upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a discussion in Dinajpur on Thursday.

The programme was held in the Hindu Polli area of Hakimpur upazila, drawing active participation from ethnic minority children alongside their guardians.

During the session, Shuvosangho members highlighted the profound importance of basic education, reminding parents that schooling is every child's fundamental right.

Speakers stressed that regular attendance and academic encouragement must begin at home, noting that parental indifference and a lack of support often lead to premature dropouts.

With mindful guidance, children can complete their studies and build self-reliant futures.

Participants underscored the urgent need to resist child marriage, urging parents never to marry off their sons and daughters early at the expense of their academic prospects.

Education, speakers noted, equips young learners with essential skills, fostering their potential to thrive independently in society.

The meeting also addressed linguistic hurdles faced by ethnic minority children.

A lack of proficiency in standard Bengali has historically hindered their comprehension in classrooms, divided their concentration, and made integration with peers difficult, heightening the risk of dropout.

To eliminate these barriers, organisers called for empathetic instruction, targeted academic support, and an inclusive, child-friendly learning environment in schools.

Shuvosangho volunteers expressed optimism that coordinated efforts among families, educators, and community platforms would bring ethnic minority pupils into mainstream education.

The event was attended by Bashundhara Shuvosangho Hakimpur upazila unit General Secretary Nahid Hasan, Joint General Secretary Irfan Ahmed, Women Affairs Secretary Tabassum Akhter Ruku, Sports Secretary Samiul Islam, and executive members Arif and Kanon, among others.
