LPG price cut by Tk13 for Sep
A A

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has cut the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for September, reducing the price of a 12kg cylinder by Tk13 to Tk1,585 from Tk1,598.
The revised prices took effect at 6:00pm on Wednesday and will remain in force until further notice, BERC said.
Under the new rates, a 5.5kg cylinder will cost Tk727, while 12.5kg LPG will be sold at Tk1,652. Prices for 15kg, 16kg and 18kg cylinders have been set at Tk1,982, Tk2,114 and Tk2,378 respectively. A 20kg cylinder will cost Tk2,642, while 22kg and 25kg cylinders will cost Tk2,907 and Tk3,303 respectively.
The prices of 30kg, 33kg, 35kg and 45kg cylinders have been fixed at Tk3,964, Tk4,360, Tk4,624 and Tk5,945 respectively.
Meanwhile, autogas used in vehicles has become cheaper by Tk0.58 per litre, with the price falling to Tk73.09 from Tk73.67.
However, the price of a 12.5kg LPG cylinder supplied by state-owned companies remains unchanged at Tk825. Such LPG is available in limited quantities.
In August, BERC raised the price of a 12kg cylinder by Tk70 to Tk1,598. In July, the price was cut by Tk357 from Tk1,885.
BERC reviews LPG and autogas prices every month based on international market prices and related costs. It has followed a monthly pricing formula linked to global rates since April 2021.
Despite the regulatory adjustments, LPG is often sold at prices above the BERC-fixed rates in the local market.
With persistent natural gas shortages, LPG cylinders have become an increasingly common cooking fuel for households. Bangladesh imports the main LPG components, propane and butane, while Saudi Aramco’s monthly Contract Price (CP) serves as the key international benchmark for local LPG pricing.
