Container delivery at Chattogram Port was suspended on Monday after transport workers halted operations following an alleged assault on a trailer worker at the port.
Workers stopped container deliveries around 3pm, and the suspension continued until around 8pm, when the report was filed.
“Container deliveries from inside the port have been suspended following an unexpected incident. We are talking to labour leaders to resolve the issue and hope to settle the matter soon,” Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said.
According to workers, an altercation broke out between the treasurer of the trailer workers’ association and a security guard at a port gate over the issuance of entry passes.
The argument later turned into a scuffle, prompting transport workers to suspend container movement. Movement of other cargo vehicles was also disrupted as workers protested at the gate, they said.
