Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that taxes need to be increased to help recover the country’s fragile economy, adding that enhanced revenue collection would support greater investment and job creation.
He emphasised that expanding employment
opportunities remains a top priority for the government.
“Without investment, there will be no employment.
That is why the government is putting strong emphasis on both domestic and
foreign investment,” he said.
The minister added that education, healthcare, and
employment generation will receive priority in the upcoming national budget.
He made these remarks while responding to questions
from journalists on Friday afternoon after inspecting a proposed site for a hospital
in Patenga, Chattogram.
During the visit, Chattogram Naval Area Commander
Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hasan briefed the minister in detail about the land’s
location, geographical setting, communication facilities, surrounding
infrastructure, and future development prospects.
The commanding officer of BNS Ulka, along with
senior officials from the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), the Deputy
Commissioner’s Office, and the relevant land office, were also present during
the inspection.
