RSGT Bangladesh has officially launched full-scale operations at the Patenga Container Terminal, marking a major milestone for Bangladesh's maritime and logistics sector after two years of infrastructure development and investment.
The inauguration ceremony in Dhaka was attended by
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury as chief guest, alongside senior
officials from the governments of Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, representatives
of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), business leaders, shipping line
executives and stakeholders from the country's trade and logistics sectors,
said a press release.
Since signing a 22-year concession agreement with
the CPA, RSGT Bangladesh has invested heavily to modernise the terminal. The
company said it committed USD$170 million to the project, introduced advanced
digital systems, expanded terminal facilities, installed hybrid rubber-tyred
gantry (RTG) cranes and commissioned four state-of-the-art ship-to-shore
cranes, enabling the terminal to begin full-scale operations.
RSGT Bangladesh said the modern terminal is expected
to improve vessel turnaround times, increase cargo-handling capacity and
strengthen Bangladesh's position as a regional trade and logistics hub.
The company also thanked the Chittagong Port
Authority for its support, describing the project as a successful example of
public-private partnership.
The company noted that the launch also reflects
growing economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, with RSGT
Bangladesh becoming the country's first international container terminal
operator, bringing global expertise, advanced technology and foreign investment
to Bangladesh's port sector.
