Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Friday said the government is moving forward with various plans to harness the potential of the Blue Economy.
“The country will be able to generate substantial
revenue if its marine resources and seaports are being utilized properly and
the government is progressing plans to rein the potentials of our Blue
Economy,” he said
He made the remark while addressing the inaugural
ceremony of the Cox's Bazar Development Authority (CDA) Residential Flat
Development Project-1 as the chief guest in Cox's Bazar.
He said the government is working to further enrich
the tourism industry in Cox's Bazar and elevate it to international standards.
“Country's economy could benefit significantly by
fully realising the district's immense tourism potential,” he added.
"Tourism cannot be limited to the construction
of high-rise buildings alone," stressing the nature preservation, he said.
He added that activities should be spread across the
entire 100-kilometre stretch of Cox's Bazar Sea beach.
He stressed the need to promote the beauty of Cox's
Bazar globally to attract travelers.
He also said the government has planned to establish
a Marine University to expand opportunities for higher education and marine
research centered on Cox's Bazar.
“Once implemented, the initiative will open a new
horizon for marine education, research and the development of skilled human
resources,” he added.
Later, Salahuddin laid the foundation stone of the
new building of the 500-bed Cox's Bazar Medical College Hospital.
