Crowne Plaza in the capital’s Gulshan has raised Tk12 lakh to support more than 200 underprivileged children through a month-long “Giving for Good” campaign organised as part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ initiative.
The hotel’s initiative brought together its
employees, women entrepreneurs, corporate partners, guests, runners and
community members through a series of initiatives in September and early
October.
The campaign included a blood donation drive, a
women entrepreneurs’ market, a charity run and a charity dinner, with proceeds
supporting Mojar School.
As part of the “Drops of Hope” blood donation camp,
organised in collaboration with the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation, nearly
50% of the hotel’s employees donated blood. The donations have the potential to
support 60-70 thalassemia patients and their families who depend on regular
transfusions.
The second edition of the WOW Market (Women of Worth
and Wonder) brought together 30 women-led businesses. Participants showcased
and sold products ranging from handwoven clothing and handmade items to jute
and coconut-husk crafts and homemade food.
Each participating entrepreneur contributed Tk3,000
towards their stall, with the full amount donated to Mojar School, while
proceeds from sales went directly to the participating businesses.
The hotel also organised “Run for Charity:
Meaningful Marathon 2.0”, which brought together more than 200 runners,
including hotel colleagues, corporate partners, community members, running
enthusiasts and former Bangladesh national footballer Zahid Hasan Ameli.
Participants contributed Tk1,500 each, raising more
than Tk300,000 for the fundraising effort in support of Mojar School. The event
featured a 5-kilometre run.
The campaign culminated in the “Joy of Giving
Charity Dinner” on Thursday, where colleagues, guests, partners and supporters
gathered to mark the initiative. Hotel colleagues also made personal
contributions of Tk1.5 lakh.
A total of Tk12 lakh was raised for Mojar School
through the collective initiatives.
Firoze Asad, senior group adviser and member of the
board, Doreen, and Karthi VK, general manager of Crowne Plaza Dhaka Gulshan,
formally handed over the Tk12 lakh cheque to Mojar School.
The contribution will support more than 200
underprivileged children through education, nutrition and essential support.
“What makes me particularly happy is that this has
not been just one event. The team has created a meaningful journey of giving–Drops
of Hope, the WOW Market, the Meaningful Charity Run, and now the Joy of Giving
Dinner,” Firoze Asad said.
Karthi VK said the campaign became meaningful by
bringing together colleagues, partners, entrepreneurs, runners, guests and
community members to contribute in different ways.
The charity dinner also featured magic by Saqlain
Hossain, a comedy performance and a cultural presentation by students of Mojar
School, followed by music and a buffet dinner.
