Mirza Fakhrul backs China’s 'One China policy'

BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday reaffirmed Bangladesh’s strong support for China’s “One China Policy,” underscoring the county’s longstanding diplomatic stance on the issue.

He made the remarks during a dinner speech at a posh hotel in Beijing, highlighting long-standing friendship and future cooperation.

Fakhrul emphasised that Bangladesh and China have built their relationship on mutual respect, benefit and shared aspirations. He reaffirmed Dhaka’s firm adherence to the One China principle as the foundation of bilateral ties.

He also said Bangladesh’s foreign policy vision, “Bangladesh First”, draws inspiration from Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, whose contributions strengthened relations with China. He added that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman now seeks to advance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Highlighting future prospects, Fakhrul expressed confidence that China will continue to support Bangladesh’s efforts toward economic growth and social transformation. He called for stronger collaboration to build on five decades of partnership and create new opportunities for the future.

Fakhrul concluded by expressing hope that Bangladesh-China friendship and cooperation will continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.
