The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s sustainable growth and reform agenda following discussions between EU Ambassador Michael Miller and Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
According to a Facebook post by the EU Mission, the
minister delivered a speech on 9 May marking Europe Day and was thanked for
what was described as a “powerful speech.”
The post said the EU ambassador and the minister
held a productive discussion a day earlier on Bangladesh’s macroeconomic
outlook, revenue mobilisation, financial sector reforms, green finance,
sustainable infrastructure, and social protection.
The discussion also emphasized the importance of
strong, transparent, and independent institutions, including empowered
oversight mechanisms and safeguards, as key foundations for a healthy business
environment and an open civic space.
The European Union said it is continuing to work
with Bangladesh in support of sustainable economic growth and reforms aimed at
benefiting all sections of society.
Describing itself as Bangladesh’s steadfast
political partner, the EU reiterated its support for the country’s broader
reform and development efforts.
