The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has warned the public about fraudsters posing as its officials and offering visa and consular services in exchange for money.
In an advisory issued on Thursday, the High
Commission said it had received complaints that a group was contacting
individuals while falsely claiming to be officials of the mission and promising
expedited visas or other services for payment.
The High Commission clarified that none of
its officials ever contact applicants by phone, WhatsApp, social media or email
to offer visas or request money.
It said all visa applications are processed
strictly through the official procedures and urged people not to trust
unsolicited offers.
To protect themselves from fraud, the High
Commission advised the public not to pay money in response to such calls or
messages and not to share personal or financial information with unknown
individuals.
It also requested anyone who receives
suspicious calls or messages, or falls victim to such scams, to immediately
report the incident by sending the phone number, screenshots and other relevant
information to [email protected].
The High Commission further urged people to
share the advisory with others to help prevent such fraudulent activities.
