France congratulates Mirza Fakhrul on election as Bangladesh president

The Embassy of France in Dhaka has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

In a statement on Thursday (20 August), the embassy extended its “warmest congratulations” to the newly elected president and recognised his longstanding contribution to Bangladesh’s democratic journey as a veteran politician.

“France, as a close partner of Bangladesh, remains committed to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and bilateral relations between our two countries,” the embassy said.

The statement comes after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected president in a parliamentary vote on Thursday.

His election is set to mark a new chapter in Bangladesh-France relations, with Paris reaffirming its commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Dhaka.
