The Bangladesh Embassy in Ankara has organised an exchange meeting titled “Involvement of Expatriate Bangladeshis in Advancing Bangladesh-Turkey Relations,” bringing together embassy officials and Bangladeshi expatriates living in Turkey.
The meeting discussed ways to further strengthen
bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Turkey and expand cooperation in
trade, education, healthcare, technology, investment, culture and tourism, said
a press release.
The meeting was moderated by First Secretary Md
Shafiquddin. At the beginning, Bangladesh Ambassador to Turkey M Amanul Haq
delivered a guidance-oriented speech addressing Bangladeshi expatriates on
several important issues.
The ambassador said that although the Bangladeshi
community in Turkey is relatively small, every member can play an important
role in projecting a positive image of Bangladesh from their respective
positions.
He urged expatriates to comply with Turkish laws,
regulations and social norms and said their first responsibility was to uphold
Bangladesh’s reputation through their conduct.
The ambassador also called on the community to use
social media and other online platforms responsibly. He advised them to refrain
from promoting or supporting any campaign or statement that could damage
Bangladesh’s image.
He further urged expatriates not to provide false
information on medical matters and specifically warned them against fraud
related to kidney transplantation.
He said attempting to arrange a kidney transplant by
falsely claiming a familial relationship could lead to imprisonment, fines and
other legal complications under Turkish law.
The expatriate Bangladeshis actively participated in
the discussion and presented suggestions on various aspects of
Bangladesh-Turkey bilateral relations.
Among the proposals raised were easing the visa
process for Bangladeshi students through engagement with the relevant
authorities; simplifying remittance transfers from Turkey to Bangladesh;
increasing university-industry cooperation and introducing Turkey’s technopark
model in Bangladesh; producing Bangladesh-related art films by Turkish
filmmakers; expanding cultural cooperation; promoting technology and
digital-service exchanges; reducing the lead time for transporting goods to
Turkey; exploring opportunities to export light-engineering products from
Bangladesh to Turkey; and restructuring Bangladesh’s tourism sector to attract
more Turkish visitors.
The Embassy’s commercial counsellor also briefed the
expatriates on various initiatives undertaken by the mission to expand
Bangladesh-Turkey trade and exports, explore joint ventures and trade
agreements, and increase business-to-business (B2B) contacts between the two
countries.
