The Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh on Saturday observed National Revolution and Solidarity Day, highlighting the historic significance of 7 November, 1975, in strengthening national unity and restoring political stability during a critical period in Bangladesh's history.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Md Delwar Hossain formally hoisted the national flag at the embassy premises accompanied by the national anthem to mark the occasion, according to an official information bulletin received here.
Addressing a discussion at the embassy auditorium, the ambassador paid tribute to those who participated in the historic events of 7 November, 1975, and recalled their contributions to national unity and solidarity.
He also paid homage to the participants in the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 mass uprising and the 2024 mass uprising, while praying for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs.
Highlighting the political situation surrounding the events of 7 November, Ambassador Delwar Hossain said the political change on 15 August, 1975, had failed to bring stability to the country, leaving the nation in a state of uncertainty.
He said the historic revolution of 7 November had brought relief to the people at a critical juncture, when national unity became essential to safeguarding the country's interests.
"At a critical moment in the nation's history, the people united in the greater interest of the country," he said.
The ambassador recalled the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, saying his leadership had helped restore law and order, stabilise the country and initiate significant development programmes.
He particularly highlighted Ziaur Rahman's initiatives in agricultural development, including the introduction of the nationwide canal excavation programme aimed at expanding irrigation facilities and improving agricultural productivity.
Messages from the President and Prime Minister marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day were read out at the programme.
The discussion was conducted by Md Rezaul Islam, Counsellor and Head of Chancery at the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh.
Representatives of the Bangladeshi community, including Dr Golam Hasnain Sohan, Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury, Hamidul Haque Shamim and Biplob Hossain Azad, also addressed the discussion.
Officials and staff members of the embassy, alongside expatriate Bangladeshis living in Riyadh, attended the programme.
The observance concluded with special prayers seeking continued peace, prosperity and welfare for Bangladesh and its people.
