“Mayapakhi”, one of the most talked-about dramas aired during Eid-ul-Azha, has generated widespread discussion among viewers.
Directed by Jakaria Showkhin and starring Ziaul Faruq Apurba and Naznin Nahar Niha in the lead roles, the drama has received an overwhelming response since its release.
While many viewers have praised the emotional depth of the story and the realistic portrayal of its characters, others have criticised the drama for what they perceive as a negative depiction of working women.
Responding to the criticism, actress Niha, who plays the central character Maya, said the incidents portrayed in the drama are rooted in reality and were included solely to serve the narrative.
“Many such incidents happen in real life. They have only been shown for the needs of the story,” Niha said. “There is nothing unrealistic here. Nothing bad has been glorified. Rather, there is a teaching message for the audience. Because the consequences of bad deeds are never good; that will be understood after watching the drama.”
The actress emphasised that the drama does not intend to belittle any class or profession but instead highlights situations that exist in society.
Despite the controversy, audience appreciation for the drama remains strong. Niha’s performance, in particular, has drawn widespread praise across social media platforms.
However, the actress credited her co-star Apurba and director Jakaria Showkhin for helping her deliver the role effectively.
“Apurba and Showkhin bhai guided me in every aspect,” she said.
“They carefully explained how to perform a scene and express emotions. I have tried my best from my place. I still consider myself a beginner. It feels wonderful to know that the audience likes my work. I will continue striving to do even better work in the future.”
