Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Sunday called upon the political parties to extend support to ensure a fair, impartial, and acceptable national parliamentary election.

“It is not possible for the Election Commission to carry out this massive task alone. In particular, the support of national leaders, who have direct ability to influence voters, is essential,” he said while presiding over a dialogue with six registered political parties at the Election Bhaban in Agargaon.
He also emphasised that the cooperation of political parties is crucial for bringing voters to the polling stations and ensuring a safe election environment.
“A fair election largely depends on the proper implementation of the code of conduct. If candidates comply with it properly, the election will be fair. In this regard, we seek your cooperation.”

He urged political leaders to communicate key messages to the party workers after carefully reviewing the finalised election code of conduct.
The CEC also said that since taking office, the commission has undertaken many challenging tasks while admitting the delay in initiating discussions with the political parties due to heavy workload. Referring to several key tasks and achievements of the commission, he added, “Updating the voter list was a massive operation, with around 77,000 people working in the field. In addition, approximately 21 lakh deceased voters were removed from the list, and over 40 lakh left-out voters - those eligible to vote but not listed - were identified and included.”
He said that measures are being taken to ensure that nearly 10 lakh personnel involved in election duty - including law enforcement officers, polling, and presiding officers - are able to cast their own votes. Arrangements have also been made for government employees posted abroad to vote, and initiatives are underway to enable citizens in prisons to exercise their voting rights as well.
Earlier today, Gono Forum, Gano Front, Islamic Front Bangladesh, Islami Oikya Jote, Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP) and Bangladesh Jatiya Party joined today’s view-exchange meeting held from 10.30am to 12.45pm.
Then the EC held dialogue with Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASOD), Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP), Trinomool BNP, Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL), Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and Islami Andolan Bangladesh in the second session of the day.
